Behind The Scenes: Producing the film “Interview With A King” was a captivating and demanding endeavor, with the primary objective being to create an animated masterpiece that accurately depicted a genuine and natural interview with Dr. King. Achieving this distinctive style required persistence and imagination, as the challenge demanded creative perseverance. Since the production was an animated film, traditional live actors were not involved. Instead, a network of computers utilized advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) character customization software and other state-of-the-art tools to create and animate both the characters and all of the props from scratch. As this project involved a novel blend of technologies, the team placed great importance on being thorough in every aspect. From the inception to the completion of the project, our writers, directors, artists, sculptors, animators, and graphic designers worked in close collaboration. They dedicated their utmost attention to each component, striving to present an exceptional experience in every possible way.
Aware of the AI’s limited grasp of intellectual property boundaries, our team was committed to ensuring a respectful and legally compliant portrayal of the Dr. King character in the film. Despite using AI character customization software to generate both the Interviewer and Dr. King, our intimate involvement in the character-customization process remained significant. We maintained an active role in shaping the characters to ensure they aligned with our creative vision, and we made a deliberate decision not to replicate Dr. King’s likeness in exact detail. The extent of our input varied depending on the specific software or platform utilized. By providing the essential information, we enabled the AI character customization software to produce character designs that were distinct and personalized, tailored to the specifications we provided. Before reaching the characters that made it into the final cut, we embarked on an iterative journey, exploring various drafts for each character. This collaborative process allowed us to refine and shape the virtual personas to align precisely with our creative vision. The result was a collection of distinct and meticulously crafted characters.
Equipped with characters and a storyboard as a visual guide, our team of 2D and 3D animators embarked on a meticulous journey. With precision and care, we rigged the characters and then animated approximately 50,000 frames, imbuing the characters and animated props with fluid motion and genuine emotions.
Rigging in animation is the process of creating a digital skeleton or structure for a character or object. It involves defining bones, joints, and controls to enable animators to manipulate and pose the character realistically. Rigging is crucial for bringing characters to life by controlling their movements and expressions. It involves setting up constraints and deformers for realistic motion and deformation.
Dr. King’s mannerisms were deliberate and unhurried, making every slight tilt of his head, upward glance, and gesture of his hands significant. The outcome was a seamless depiction onscreen, captivatingly breathing life into the narrative.
When providing input to the AI character customization software, our team shared various details that encompassed several key aspects:
A. Appearance: We offered descriptions or visual references of the character’s physical attributes, including face shape, hairstyle, eye color, skin tone, and body type.
B. Clothing: We provided information regarding the character’s clothing style, specifying garments, colors, patterns, and accessories that contributed to their overall appearance.
C. Personality: We conveyed characteristics, traits, or personality descriptions that helped shape the character’s demeanor, expressions, and body language, allowing their personality to shine through in the design.
D. Background: We shared contextual information about the character’s backstory, occupation, interests, or any other relevant details that contributed to their overall identity and helped establish a deeper connection with the audience.
E. Customization Parameters: We utilized specific customization options offered by the AI character customization software to refine the character’s features, such as adjusting facial attributes, body proportions, hairstyles, or clothing choices, ensuring a tailored and unique outcome.
F. Style or Theme: We communicated any particular artistic style or thematic elements we desired to incorporate into the character’s design, whether it be realism, cartoonish, sci-fi, fantasy, or any other specific aesthetic approach.
By providing these comprehensive details, we facilitated the AI character customization software in generating characters that were distinctive, cohesive, and aligned with our creative vision for “Interview With A King.
